This is especially the case where Active Desktop has been installed. There are literally dozens of DLLs and other components involved, and if the IE5 uninstall won't work, and you didn't have a product like CleanSweep running to track all the changes made during not only the IE5 install, but any updates downloaded subsequently, you've little chance of guessing what in all came in with IE5, or what has to be reloaded to recover.
