Yes, there are about an infinite number of examples that you can download from the Files Section here showing how to get a variety of different information on the hard drive; Vlad Tatavu's DriveInformation Class is one very solid approach.

The same information cn be obtained using the Scripting.FileSystemObject if you install it on all your target systems.

Realize that the disk serial number is not tied to hardware, and may not be visible to you via a network share at all; on local drives, it'll change at least every time your format or repartition the drive. It ties to rewritable media information that can be altered programmatically, so it is not a reliable copy protection scheme mechanism.
