Maybe it's a version issue: I have Crystal Reports 6.0 (haven't upgraded yet), so maybe 7.0 added the ability to open tables in a DBC.

One thing to look out for. If you create a new index in SDT and use the Expression Builder, by default it will add the alias to the field name you choose (for example, CUSTOMER.COMPANY rather than just COMPANY). I wonder if that's what fouling up Crystal. You can turn that option off in the Expression Builder (click on Options and you'll see the option to not add an alias). If you find any indexes that have an aliased expression, remove the alias and see if that helps.
