I'm just starting with Delphi, so I can't make a fair comparison. However, I have seen a Delphi application run over the Internet on my 486 DX2. The Delphi application ran faster than an equivalent VFP 5 application.

Check out www.kwems.com . You can download a Power BBS program called Power Access for free. It was written in Delphi. Once you set up PA, sign on to www.kwems.com to get their current dynamic IP address. Then launch the PA program, Edit the Host's IP address and log on to the Power BBS via the Internet. You will be surprised when you see speed at which things go.
