I found the answer in an obscure KB article - #Q157424. ODBC doesn't recognize the concept of an empty date. If you wish to query for empty dates in a remote view, instead of querying for {}, you query for the value {^1899-12-30}. ODBC uses that value to represent an empty date. I have tried it and it works.
