we've had this problem for months now. I've narrowed to being a network problem, but that's about it. For us, 90% of the time there is a rdr timeout error associated with it. we have an less than desirable setup, netbeui, ntserver 4, 3 com cards. If you find a solution, please!, let me know.
It's hard to trap it, because it won't let you close the files in most cases. so I just try to pause and reset. The that I've found was to do with nt file caching. it's in tech net article Q163401. hth-jack.
