I'm really "grasping at straws" here, I haven't really done anything in VFP like you're trying, BUT. According to The Hacker's Guide, you may want to try SET INTENSITY OFF, this is suppose to set @ GET's background to Transparent, and I'm assuming that SAY's may work the same way.
If this doesn't do it, you may have to change how you are putting out this report.
