I have used FPW 2.6a and the Imagn dll to handle jpg and gif images
in an application I wrote. It is VERY fast.
I am just now exploring VFP vs VB using the image control (that may
be the wrong name). There is also a picture control but it does not
have the properties I need.
Anyhow I have noticed the following differences:
a) The Imagn product is still MUCH FASTER than the VFP/VB controls
but is harder to program.
b) VFP display of large jpg images in particular is significantly
faster than VB - just the opposite of what I would have assumed
initially! Smaller jpgs are about the same for response time.
c) VFP has an "Isometric" property for its control - this guarantees
that the image is expanded correctly to fill the control - VB
does NOT have this capability! Am I missing some technique
to do this in VB?
d) VB does have the ability to bind a column in a table to a control. With VFP I will store the image in a memo field, then at
display time write out the memo to a temp file and display that.
Oh yeah, I am a loooooooooong time FPW programmer and VFP pgrmr and
I am learning VB due to the fact that I am a contractor and the demand
in the DFW, Texas area for VFP is small while the demand for VB/SQL
Server programmers is hot! Microsoft "lack of" marketing at work.
