I've been soliciting opinions from folks about
programming standards recently. I'm working in
a small shop (one programmer, one person who
writes code, and a hack) and we're about to take
on one or two more programmers. Looking at the
code now and knowing where it could go (after a
bad experience with a contractor) I'd like to
have some standards in place.

I'm not looking at becoming a "code cop", but we
do need to have some standard naming conventions,
and such. Never having worked in a shop that had
such, I'm at a loss as to what typically goes
into a GOOD set of standards.

Does anyone have a set of standards that they can
share, or can you offer guidelines that will help
keep down confusion and increase the reliability
of systems developed in a multi-developer
environment? I'm also interested in how you would
suggest keeping such a document up-to-date.

A lot I know, but you all are the best I know of :-)

advTHANKSance...
