Hi John,
>For FoxTalk, I spent 2 hours mulling over the 24 pages. It was, as usual, a very meaty issue... For FPA, about 15 minutes.
2 hours including, or excluding the extended articles? *g* I won't tell how much it takes me to read both magazines, but it's less. *s*
Anyway, as someone who regularily contributes to Advisor, I feel forced to reply to your message. First of all, there's no doubt that FoxTalk is much more technical centered than Advisor. FP Advisor is meant to be a FoxPro centric, general magazine with a broad range from beginners articles up to expert articles, while FoxTalk clearly is the technical centered magazine. I, personally, would like to see Advisor go more into the direction of FoxTalk and I raised these suggestions, but the answer was clear. Advisor is targeted at the broad range of VFP developers, period.
That's not necessarily a bad thing, at least, we have several FoxPro magazines competing mainly in the uS market, but also around the world. In addition, we have several other FoxPro magazines, competing in other parts of the world, like Markus Egger's Software Developer Magazine. But one thing you have to keep in mind, and I'm not really sure, you do: Pick the right magazine for the right job. *s*
FoxPro magazines target at FoxPro specific issues, because there are not many magazines out there that do. But there is a bunch of really qualified magazines out there that deal with the entire rest, with COM, Windows, DNA, and all the current Microsoft technologies.
