How can I design an application so that the colours that I used will look the same on my client's machine as they are doing on mine?

For example on my machine green is really green. On my client's machine green is leaning toward black.

I know that this is related to the number or colours and resolution selected in the properties of a person's machine. Is there a way to make the colours look the same whatever the properties specified?

Or what would be a good way to let the user customize the colours of an application? Is it worth the trouble to go in that direction?
