I was able to solve the problem by assistance from the printer company. I wanted to print only 10cpi at draft speed. By using the generic printer driver from their set of drivers, that is what it does -- only 10cpi/high speed.

I am hoping that Santa will leave me a gift certificate under the tree and I will be able to get on the thread.
