Can you give the exact structure of the table as it exists now before it blows up - you can USE the file and then LIST STRU TO FILE filename to capture it in a text file in standard format, and then give the names, datatypes and lengths of the fields be added? This will let other people test to see if its something reproducible on another system, or if something may be wrong on the computer you're trying to do the modification from.
