I am also quite new at this, but I seem to have got it working, heres how:

The parent is the table from which you grab the field and the child is the table you drag it to. From my experience, you can only relate fields with the same name, and when you drag the relation line from one field to another, Visual FoxPro keeps the relation on the field of the Parent, but moves the relation line to the index of the child.

The way I finnaly figured this out was to select the actual line in between the tables and right-click on it to select properties. The properties box will have a parentalias and a childalias to let you know which direction the relation is going.
