In addition to the references David gave, you can also instantiate an InternetExplorer object without making it visible (or making it as visual as you like!) at all and use that to navigate the web - and it's free, too. The compelte object model for the Internet Explorer object can be found in the MSDN Library docs. The some object can be used to navigate the file system of a local hard drive...
