Printing barcodes - buy a barcode font. Buy one that matches the required barcode type - there are several standards. If you are sending the barcoded output somewhere outside your organization, be aware that there are likely to be compliance testing requirements for the output - certainly the case for barcoded shipping labels and postal mail.

If you're planning on producing barcoded output on a dot matrix printer, give up early - it's doubtful that you can relibly produce readable barcoded output using a standard DMP. Laser printers are capable of producing the necessary quality documents using decent quality print stock. Dedicated barcode printers tend to use either single pass film ribbons or thermal printing for a good reason.
