>JAVA seems the tool of the next century. Since VFP is OOP, we are inclined to OOP programming language as another tool happens to be JAVA. It's not a smart move to gamble on VB because it makes us unhappy and clients as well. In addition, going VB makes MS and stockholders happy, which Mr. Petersen is one, that's all. Period.
Java is a good investment of time and effort, since it pays off well AFA portability and usefulness to peop[le who don't do Java as their primary language - ASP and WSH both can employ variants of Java (JScript), and you can write Java that is source compatible across pltforms, if you're willing to give up OS and hardware-specific extensions, or know that the extensions you use will be available on the other platforms you'll need to support.
If you want to stick with the Visual Studio environemtn, Microsoft's withdrawl of Java from their product mix is a bit disheartening, but there are plenty of other Java environments that are available for the Wintel platform, and play nicely in COM/DNA architectures. I believe that Microsoft is going to have to offer an OO alternative for Visual Studio besides VFP or VC++, but that's a guess at best, and an uninformed one at that. I believe that they're ceding too much of the marketplace not doing so...
