This would be dependent on a number of factors - the OS (Win95/98/NT/2000), the file system (FAT, FAT32, NTFS), the number of files in the directory (and what percentage are .TXT), the drive location (local/network), drive type (EIDE/SCSI) and drive speed, the amount of system memory, etc. Even disk fragmentation of the directory could slow things down.
You may want to try using ADIR() and loading listbox "on demand" (like in the GOTFOCUS() event).
