I agree with you. We can get save a lot of time when we use visual classes, althougt we don't learn how to do it by code. But, we can also look it at the Class Designer. But, i really think that programs are quicker.
What i normally do is: i create the visual controls, create the properties and methods to him, and then... everything is by code!
I had already tried to make an application with a lot of shapes on the screen, that should appear after reading a table. And i've notice i won a lot of time creating them by code. So, it depends for what you need.
