your fixes worked to the extent of getting the code to run, but I'm now stuck with the problem of never being able to dial because 'lnport' is always minus 1. (Even after a reboot)

I put in the error trap as you suggested. The error code returned is always 87 but I haven't a clue what that means or what to do about it! Hope it means something to you...
