Hi Vernon,

I hope I've been helpful and I trust you've read my other post.

The tests were run under roughly the same conditions as your's,
the only difference being that Windows 3.1 was used. So everything
I wrote there should apply.

What was happening was that when I failed to remove the
additional information that came back regarding the generic
printer, and wrote that to WIN.INI, it ended up removing the
entire device reference, so that no default printer existed.
Therefore, the printer wasn't ready because, essentially, there
wasn't one.

Coincidentally, I've been corresponding with someone else on this
very topic, and when I got home, I had an email with exactly the
same problem. Oops again (and I don't mean Object Oriented
Programming).

You're right, they don't teach all this stuff in programming
classes. However, they're essential if one is ever going to
write high quality code. I find myself saying on a regular
basis, "Oh, so that's why they told me that."

Anyway, let me know if there are any further problems or you have
any more questions in this area.

Regards,

George
