>Seriously though. Can anyone shed any light on why this was a problem? According to the documentation quotes should not be required around the variable reference for a control source. Is this known VFP5 bad behaviour? Further, if you change the control source through the properties dialogue and insert quotes around the var name, you get (obviously, I think) the same error: Data Source for this object must be a variable reference. Any further thoughts?

When your entering into the propery sheets, it is being entered as a string, which is why you don't need the quotes. What I'm wondering is how you got it to work without the quotes, which leads me back to my first question. What does S[1,18] equal?
Mike was pickin on me.
