I did have buffering set to Optimistic, but when stepping through the code, I could open the view window and see the new record. I noticed that the part of the select statement "Where maint_sched.maint_key =" maint_key when the cursor was over it, it showed the correct value. I dropped the select statement, and simply assigned the values straight across " rooms_tbl.maint_key = maint_sched.maint_key" and had no more problems.
It is odd to note that the select did work intermitently, about 1 in 6 tries.
