If you've just got 2 guys working on the project, it may not be worth the hassle to put the tables in VSS, just the .dbc, .dbx and .dct files.
There are several reasons for this, one of which is that if you've got all those damn tables 'checked in', then the odds are the ones on your local machine are read-only.....which is something you may want to examine here.
In the meantime...does your partner there have a database container that's working with the tables you've got in VSS? If so ...wack it completely out of VSS, then have him add it back in. As matter of fact...does what he have match what's in VSS?
