I don't know if this will help you with your problem, but I found this today:

The [DA FoxPro] section of the ODBCKEY.INF file distributed with VFP6 SP3's Setup Wizard contains an invalid file extension for the foxpro table memo file.

The line reads:
FileExtns=*.dbf,*.cdx,*.idx,*.ftp

But should read:
FileExtns=*.dbf,*.cdx,*.idx,*.fpt

This may come in handy when trying to use the ODBC drivers with your apps.
