This requires installation of TAPI and a call controller; if he wanted to go this way, he'd probably be better off using the line functions (lineInitializeEx, lineOpen, lineDial, lineDrop) since they don't require a call controller with Extended support.

He needs to manage a data connection, not a voice connmection (see the user's request) so the TAPI stuff is a horrendously wrong approach. YMMV, bbut basic control of the comm port is much more straightforward.
