John and Ed have told you how to create the total. If you don't want the detail lines to show, just add the SUMMARY clause when you run the report

REPORT form MyReport SUMMARY

and it will not show the detail lines.

>I want to create a report that lists name, category, and amount. The table this report is created from has many records per category per name. I want this report to sum the amount for each person for each category. I want the total only to print for each category. I also don't want to repeat the name for each additional category.
