>An engineering firm nearby has asked me to look into writing a program for Windows NT 4.0 to replace a program on their soon to be replaced unix system. What I need to be able to do is write a database so they can search for a drawing and then have VFP open Cadra with the drawing selected. I have no real cad experience so I was just hoping someone can tell me if this is possible before I really spend any large time pursuing how to do it. Obviously, the db part is easy enough. I am only concerned with starting Carda with the appropriate file.

Have you tried to run Cadra from the command line... most programs will accept a parameter of the file. You might want to look at the manual for the program for command line options.
something like...
c:\program files\cadra\cad.exe myfile.cad
