Hi,
I hope you're right, Mike! To be honest, at Portugal, VFP is been very discriminated. I've once at a Microsoft conference, when they were presenting Visual Studio; what happened was that the MS "man" ask the audiance: "Who ever programmed at Visual Basic? And Visual C++? And Visual J++? And Visual InterDev?"... and he forgot VFP, and he had a slide just behind him!!! Worst, half an hour later, he started to present each language. He had a lot of slides about VB and VC++. VB was presented as the best language to create Client/Server applications (and i like VB, because i've worked 2 years with it). VFP had one slide saying that was a good database for PERSONAL databases. Well, at that time, if i had a gun, i wouldn't miss his heart! PERSONAL DATABASES??? I wanted to get him out of there and explain them what is REAL a language for client/server applications.
Well, at Portugal, i'm afraid VFP has his days counted. We don't have many programmers at VFP. We have a lot working with VB. Poor guys, they don't know what they are missing.
But, you, american programmers are a "massive" people, and i ask you to "push" Microsoft to still believe in VFP (besides, MS has learned a lot with Rushmore, and gave to MS Access). Who understand VFP has less problems at learning MS SQL Server, because the philosophy it's very similar.
We hope VFP survive!!!
Good luck to everybody!
Ricardo
