>>>When you install the MSDN Library that comes with VS6, the default path is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN98. The default install path for MSDN Library updates appears to be C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio\MSDN (no "98", a different directory).
>>>
>>>Since an MSDN Library update (Oct. 99, in this case) effectively replaces the one that came with VS6, what is the better choice:
>>>1) install the update to the default MSDN directory and leave the MSDN98 directory alone
>>>2) install the update to the default MSDN directory and delete the MSDN98 directory
>>>3) uninstall the VS6 MSDN Libary from MDSN98 using add/remove programs, then install the MSDN Library update to the default directory
>>>4) install the update to the MSDN98 directory and overwrite its previous contents
>>>
>>>I'm leaning toward #3, the idea being to get rid of the 60MB of obsolete doc and to set things up so the default is correct for future updates. Any comments?

>>My pick is (3) as well - I uninstall and reinstall fresh each time. I'm typically putting the entire content up on a drive on my network, and then having each station install from the network drive, letting it think it's always working from CD...

>Thanks for the confirmation. It sounded good on paper, but when I started to do it that way none of the installed MSDN Library components shows up as available for uninstall (using control panel, Add/Remove Programs, select "MSDN Library - Visual Studio 6.0a", then the "Add/Remove..." button in Setup). The only other alternative appears to be the "Remove All" button, which I'm a little leery of since I don't know for sure what it's going to uninstall.

The last time I did it was Add/Remove Programs, selected MSDN Library July, 1999, and selected "Remove All". After doing htat on each workstation, I blew out the directory that held the image of the DVD distribution, put the new DVD distribution into the same folder, and then reran the install from the network drive.
