Here's the latest in the "adventure of the IE5" problem:

1) Only one copy of each shdoc/dll in Win System, dated 11/5/99.
2) This was about the time I loaded IE5.01 beta
3) I installed win98SE after this date
4) I installed a bunch of windows updates next
5) I installed IE5.01 FR after that

The problem began after #4. It's kind of intermittent - last night things ran well for an hour or two, doing various web stuff. Then the problem hit again, and IE hung, and I had to End Task it. Doing an MSDN search, I see there are quite a few problems associated with these DLLs...

Anyway, I think it's an install sequence problem of some sort. I might want to uninstall IE5 and win98SE, and start fresh. The question is, which order? I guess maybe 98SE first, then IE5.01...
