It's not that's there's no way, you just can't use Alter Table to do it. The contents of the Memo will have to be physically moved to the new Table with the new structure. You can probably do this with your.bak file. I ususally just loop through using a DO WHILE or SCAN and then Replacing that field. I'm normalizing a database at the moment and the memo to character is just one of those that won't convert very easily.
