I keep several sets of client test data in a folder on my laptop called c:\data. To make it easy to coordinate my code with the actual server cnfig at the client site, I share the data folder ,and map drives to it (on the same machine) using NET USE.

I have done this with NT4 with no problem. I also do it in Win2KPro with one problem- unless I am connected to a network, the machine will not connect to the shares. When connected to the network, and the shares, and I unplug the network cable, the drives become unavailable (even though they are on the same machine). The laptop also disappears from its own network neighborhood. Why is this? Is there anyway around it? Is there a reason that I can't map to a local share without being connected to another machine?
