It is not an issue of the setfgocus being a questionable thing to do, it is that VFP does NOT allow it ever. Besides the event to use for the action of a command button is the Click event and not the valid. The Valid event on a command button is there strictly for backwards compatibility.

I did actually get a Setfocus to "sort of" run in a Valid, when I was testing something in a thread a few months back, and I believe it was a commandbutton. It was really more like it was ignoring it, though, rather than executing it, as I recall...
