In many orgs, DBA's are the gatekeeper to enterprise data. And yes, you need to abide by many of their rules. And, there is such a thing as best practices...
Identity fields work just fine... One needs to understand how tha animal works. One cannot stop at ones interpretation of how he/she *thinks* they work...
