I did somewthing really basic (and lame!) once for a friend who has two computers. I had a little window to send a message, and once you typed a sentence and hit enter, it added it to the end of a Text file that was on a mapped network drive. THe Text file's first line was:

< META HTTP-EQUIV=Refresh CONTENT=1>

So, when loaded up in a browser, it would show the lastest version of the text file every 1 second.

This probably is no good to you, just something interesting I thought'd share.
