If you are having problems with a connection string, the simplest way to get a valid one is to create a DBC in VFP, add a connection (using connection string not DSN) and point to the database/free table directory you wish to use. Once you have verified the connection string, you can simply copy and paste the string from the text box on the connection wizard into the correct part of the sp_addlinkedserver stored procedure.
Also, if you are using Fox tables, the tables may take some time to display in the tables menu on SQL Enterprise Manager (up to 1 minute depending on server/number of files in the directory), you may find you just need to be patient. Alternatively, just try running a query against your linked data.
