At least under Win95, the *first* time a resolution setting is changed requires a restart for Windows to activate it...after that, the setting are stored and it does not require a restart. But it only takes once to foul things up...
NT & Win98 are a little better at this, I think - but I just tried setting NT to a high res for the first time, and got a lock-out from it. So, you have to be careful, perhaps in all 3 OS...
