Hi James,
>VFP has an installed base of what?, 50,000. At $300/year that's $15 million. Do you think someone would like a built-in market with that much potential?
500,000 is the latest figure I heard... But I doubt that his number is important at all. How long does it take to re-write VFP, even if you drop all the for backward comptability stuff? A year maybe if you have a great team and all goes well, probably more than that, I suppose. And that would be version 1.0, how long does it take to get the product stable?
I doubt that all developers wait until the release is out, and from those that are still there, how many will update to a new tool from a company they hadn't heard before? And what about selling VFP to our clients? What, you use VFP? I think, MS has dropped that tool!
As much as I'd wish that someone would create a new VFP compatible tool in this case, I seriously doubt that this will happen.
