/ playing a wav file. Any ideas as to why ??CHR(7) is disrupting this / display? No, but since chr() is a function, maybe all it takes is =chr(7)... no, it does nothing (tried it). "Wait chr(7) nowait" may solve it, but it hides the cursor until the next keypress, which may or may not be desirable in your case. I tried to put ??chr(7) into one of my forms in .keypress event, and discovered that the cursor appears when it shouldn't (the form contains just one label and a command group - it's an alert). A simple Set cursor off before ??chr(7) did the trick, followed by Set Cursor &OldCursorState. Probably it was the appearing of the cursor that messed up your form.
