If I use a data layer to access my data, schema changes will probably require changes in the data layer. Honestly, both are requiring code changes so what's the difference?

Well, Scott uses a persistence layer which builds SQL on the fly based on MetaData... so, if the schmea is changed you don't have to change the BizObj or the persistence layer, just the meta data... which being data means 'no code changes' of course, there are still changes, so is it symantics?... perhaps not, since a DBA could make the meta data changes.
