>well...what does Microsoft say about discontinuing foxpro...does anyone really know...?
This question has been going around since Microsoft acquired FoxPro many years ago. Ok, maybe FoxPro was not made into the golden child at MS, but we should never have expected that. On the other hand, if everyone goes around saying FoxPro is dead, it will be. Publishers will be less interested in publishing VFP books. Bookstores will be less interested in carrying any (I was just at a BN the other day and there were none!). Companies see this and downplay VFP as legacy and obsolete. And it goes on and on.
It's sort of like the Y2K problem. The real problem will probably be the fear reaction by people expecting the worst and thus creating a problem.
Also, even if MS knew they were going to drop VFP, why would they publicly say that? Wouldn't that be like shooting yourself in the foot (it's only a foot, not the heart like VB <g>).
IAC, nothing lasts forever. FoxPro was not my first language, it is not my only language, and it will not be my last language. I too wish it would last forever, but if not, I'll just move on to the next tool just like before.
