You'll have to use the RDC approach which is another automation server (see the help documentation) In this object model it's possible to change the formatted picture property.

Note that the RDC is a new automation server included with CR 7.0 and freely available as add on for version 6.0 (though this one is lees advanced). In this approach you have to use the RDC automation server to print reports and the Smartviewer control to make previews. The developers help included with CR 7.0 will help you to get started.
