Because it's the proper, contemporary, and standard way to do things! :) But seriously, your runtimes should be registered and running on local machines, so the OS can be aware of them, or there can be various problems...And particularly if you use things like OCXs, you need to run setups on local machines.

It's always been a dirty little secret that you can get *simple* vfp apps to run entirely off servers, but it is definitely not recommended by pretty much all the experts, and will not work for more complex apps that integrate non-vfp components.
