Just a follow-up: I ran the checker on a test machine with a known older version of MDAC installed. The checker correctly reported the installed version. I then had the checker uninstall MDAC and reinstall the latest production version of MDAC. After the reinstall was complete I re-ran the checker and it reported the correct installed version. Appears to work as advertised!
