Although, they can be used for many differrent things here is an example of one I did just yesterday. Most of our tables with Prinmary Keys use stored procedures. It is used to automatically icrement the key when inserting to the table. The syntax is just newkey('mytable'). It's really just a callable function built into the table, in this case the Primary Key field. It can be added programmatically or interactively.
