I know you're looking for input from people who use the product (as opposed to me, who built it <g>), but I just wanted to point out that Stonefield Reports (SFReports) will meet all the requirements you listed above:

- The default data engine layer works with DBCs, but the data engine class (SFDataEngine) can easily be subclassed to work with other data setups, such as free tables, Access, SQL Server, etc. SFReports includes documentation on how to do this and several example classes.

- SFReports is not framework-specific, so it'll work with any VFP application.

- It includes source code for everything.

Another point: it was developed from scratch in VFP and takes full advantage of VFP's OOP features.
