I would never use VFP on a WAN. Only low traffic LAN's and single user applications.

When I said 'Poor Man’s SQL Server' I meant a VFP COM server requesting data from a VFP database on the same machine is acting like a SQL database because its running queries in a separate process from the client. Now, since the data is local to the COM server, I assumed it would be very fast as VFP has an excellent reputation for speed. I backed this up with the testing Rick Strahl published in his book. He was probably using SQL Server 6.5, if that makes a difference.

So, just for grins, I opened a VFP table in the VIEW window and issued select * in the command window and the results came back instantaneously. I did the same thing in the Query Analyzer and it took noticeably longer, but it was still very fast. If this is not a fair comparison, then I stand corrected and I'm the biggest turkey in the world.

Regards,
Charlie
