If it were a 2-tiered WAN app, I would use VFP on the client and SQL Server as the database. Also, I would try to save round trips to the server and take advantage of the flexibility of VFP's local cusor engine by holding static data and other such small data sets(i.e, an invoice and it's line items) on the client. In other words, exploit the benefits of both applications.
The only time I would use VFP data on a distributed application is if I had a VFP COM server sitting on the same machine as the data. I haven't tried this, but it sounds like a viable solution.
I know the test I performed was not a good example, but I would read about what Rick Strahl says in his book.
Its happy hour time, have a good weekend.
