Cursors might not be a feature of ANSI 92, but they are included in SQL Server & Oracle to facilitate record processing. Oracle supports it thru their PL (procedure language) SQL. You create a loop that does a Select...into cursor, process, then return to the Select, that is smart enough to select the next matching record.
I have not done record processing in SQL Server, but I have created temp cursors there also, to facilitate combining records from several tables.
